Bringing A Computer To Campus?

We want you to have an easy time getting connected to the Residence Hall Network (ResNet). Here are some guidelines on what to bring and where to get more information if you need it!

Buying a new computer?

EMU has arranged for educational discounts on Windows and Macintosh computers. Visit the Macintosh or Dell for discounts on computers and software.

What to bring:

• Computer, monitor, printer, peripherals and power cords
• Surge protector or UPS
• Device cables (USB, Firewire, Printer, etc.)
• Printer paper and ink refills
• Blank media (CDs, USB flash drive, etc.)
• Ethernet switch (depending on residence hall assignment) NOTE: Wired or Wireless routers are not allowed.
• Computer cable lock
• Mouse pad
• Computer manuals
• System and application software media (CDs and disks)
• Microsoft Office

Important Software:

• Install EMU licensed antivirus software - free to EMU students!
  >> We strongly advise uninstalling other antivirus products that you have before installing the one provided by EMU <<
• Install Windows System Updates or Macintosh - repeat process until there are no more updates!
• Install and run anti-spyware programs - we recommend Ad-Aware Personal and Spybot-S&D
