IT - Data Outlet Installation Request ProcessThe Division of Information Technology (DoIT) in conjunction with Physical Plant, has completed a time and materials (T&M) contract with two vendors for campus data cabling needs. The winning contractors meet or exceed all required certification levels and are contractually required to follow EMU and industry defined standards as well as industry best practices for data cabling. Request ProcessEffectively immediately, to initiate a data drop installation request, please send a completed requisition to: Division of Information Technology, Attn: Ralph Fitzpatrick, 127 Pray-Harrold. The completed requisition must include Banner Fund/Org/Program information, appropriate signatures and a description of the request. DoIT will then create a work order for the requested work and assign the contractor to complete the work. Once the work has been completed, DoIT will be notified by the contractor and we will activate the new data drops as appropriate in the communications closet(s). We will then send an email as defined below to let the appropriate person know that the data drop installation is complete and ready for use. Note: Unfortunately, the contractors are not permitted to accept orders directly from departments using university purchasing cards. Departments contacting contractors directly will be referred to DoIT for assistance. With all of that said, we ask that you include the following information on the description in the requisitions you send to DoIT :Required Information:
Optional Information:
A sample req in PDF format is available here for your convenience. Requisitions that do not include the information requested above may result in delayed installation while we work with you to gather all required information. Requisitions without appropriate account numbers and/or authorized signatures will be returned. Other Relevant InformationCompletion time for data drops is typically 1-2 weeks from receipt of requisition. However, if you need a drop installed by a specific date, note the required completion date on the requisition and follow up with email to Ralph Fitzpatrick. Although we cannot guarantee a quicker turn-around, we may be able to achieve a tighter deadline, if required. The new contracts include a "not to exceed" cost of $307 per drop. This per drop cost may be included on the requisition. It is generally safe to assume that $307 per drop estimate is accurate for up to four new drops ordered on a single requisition. Should a department need to order more than four drops on a single requisition, we recommend that they contact Ralph to request a cost quote as the per drop cost will likely be slightly lower. DoIT collects no fees for this service. All costs charged against requisitions submitted in accordance with this procedure are actual costs billed by the contractor in compliance with their competitively bid contracts. Should you have any questions about this process, please feel free to email Rocky Jenkins (Rocky.Jenkins@emich.edu) or Ralph Fitzpatrick (Ralph.Fitzpatrick@emich.edu) and one of us will respond as soon as possible. |
